I enjoyed doing this last week, so thought I’d attempt to make it a regular feature.
Here’s my picks from TradeMe this week:
So far this month the Hire Kit’s page has been the most viewed section on this website. If you run a hire kit, email me with the details and I will add it to the website. I can include photos as well.
Also, just to let you know, I am hoping Cloth Nappy will be accepted as a sponsor for the next Great Down Under Nappy Hunt running next month. You can read more about that here.
For more information about the nappy brands I’ve listed in my TradeMe picks check out the review section over in the forums at The Nappy Network.

Just the other day I discovered that Llamajamas are having their annual sale. Wow!!! All of their wool longies are on sale, with some starting as low as USD$19.99 . Now that’s nothing to be sneezed at. Here’s a preview of what’s on offer (note: some may have sold out by now) …

Once I’d finished drooling over the longies (some slight disappointment here, as my youngest is potty training) I had a browse around and was pleasantly surprised. First of all, Llamajamas sell hand knitted items, which are made by a cooperative of professional knitters in Ecuador. Women using a skill passed from generation to generation, who are from the remote Andes mountains where poverty and unemployment are high, and childcare is scarce. I found that fascinating, and if you did too, you can read more at Llamajama’s About Us page.
Secondly, you can also shop for yummy yarn such as alpaca, merino and organically dyed wool. And there are a variety of patterns available too.

If you have time to grab a cup of coffee, then I highly recommend you head on over for a good look round the www.llamajama.com website. Certainly a ‘must do’ if you fancy yourself as a knitter or yarn harlot, as Meredith has a variety of interesting articles on her website including:
So if a spot of retail therapy is necessary, grab your wallet and shop online.

I’ve not been on TradeMe in a long time, but had a browse this week and came across these auctions I thought were well worth noting for starting up a cloth nappy system:

If you’re interesting in running your own cloth nappy business, then don’t forget I mentioned earlier on in the week that CottonTails Nappies is for sale.

Mother’s Instinct is celebrating their first birthday this month, with one week left of birthday specials.

And hasn’t Karyn done well over the last year? She is now a stockist of Monkey Doodlez™, bumGenius!, Haute, Dream Eze, Ecobubs, Green Acre Designs, Drybees, Wahmies™, Wacky Wraps, Cute Tooshies®, Wam Bamboo, and Karma Kids (which is just mind boggling).
And if that wasn’t enough, arriving this week at Mother’s instinct is the GADimal. If the name hasn’t given it away, these are furry ‘critter like’ pocket nappies that don’t require PUL, making them an extremely breathable little nap. And if it helps the cause, you can now pay with your credit card.

In the past cloth nappies were only available if you looked hard enough in stores selling natural or organic products. But these generally tended to be what I call first generation cloth nappies.
However, the WAHM (work at home mum) revolution that has erupted over the last several years has hugely exploded the availability of modern cloth nappies, thanks to the internet. When I refer to modern cloth nappies, I’m talking about reusable nappies that don’t require pins, have stay dry layers, are waterproof and breathable, are quick and easy to use, and are washed simply by chucking in the washing machine. Oh, and did I mention super cute (and comfy)?
So I guess it’s of no surprise that our humble and much loved cloth nappy WAHMs are going retail.
To the best of my knowledge Fuzzi Bunz NZ (now trading as Honeychild) have always had a retail presence. And this year Auckland residents have been ecstatic with the opening of Snazzipants new store. If you haven’t heard of Snazzipants then where have you been? They are world famous in New Zealand. And of course, Christchurch is the place to be with the opening of the new Bumbles retail store.

If you are new to the cloth nappy community it probably won’t be long before you come across the Wiseman family in America. If you’ve been cloth nappying, or should I say cloth diapering, for a while, then you will need no introduction. Jessica is of near celebrity status to cloth nappy nutters. She started The One Stop Diaper Shop which specialises in sewing supplies for cloth diapers (of course). She also owns a cottage licensing business called Very Baby which is a brand of cloth diaper products. She manages her grandmother’s cloth diaper website called Tallauh Baby which sells Very Baby cloth diapers, and does about a millon and one other things including running the Sew Diapers forum. Although my personal favourite is her truly witty and refreshing blog I read almost religiously over at www.kerflop.com.
If you head on over to this post at Kerflop, Jessica has written about the new store her husband has just finished building to house their business One Stop Diaper Shop. They are currently moving in, so go and check it out. And to entice you along even further, there are lots of photos.
